Laura Smith is Clinical Supervisor of The Counseling Center of Florence. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor. She works with children, adolescents, and families addressing a range of problems including, but not limited to: anger, anxiety, depression, grief, hyperactivity, mood swings trauma, noncompliance, parenting issues, and dealing with life stressors (such as bullies, divorce). She also works with adults experiencing relationship distress, grief, depression, and anxiety.
The type of therapy Laura uses in sessions depends on her clients’ individual needs. She often uses a client-centered approach, typically incorporating play therapy with children and some adolescents, and behavior modification for parents and children. She also utilizes cognitive behavior therapy for adolescents and adults. Regardless of the types of therapy used, she strives to help each client reach his or her therapy goals in a safe and professional setting.
Laura received her M.S. from Francis Marion University and her B.A. from Columbia College. She has worked with South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation, Florence School District One, and Rubicon Family Counseling Services. She has provided trainings on working with children and their families and been an adjunct professor at Florence-Darlington Technical College. She currently supervises counselor interns.
